ams TCS3408 Color Sensor is an ultra-high sensitivity light-to-digital converter that features Ambient Light Sensing (ALS), color (RGB) sensing, and_selective flicker detection. The ambient light and_color sensing functions provide five concurrent ambient light sensing channels: Red, Green, Blue, Clear, and_Wideband. The RGB and_Clear channels have a UV/IR blocking filter. This architecture accurately measures ambient light and_enables the calculation of illuminance, chromaticity, and_color temperature to manage display appearance. The architecture of the engine features self-maximizing dynamic range, ambient light subtraction, data output and_interrupt-driven 1.8V I2C communications interface.
The TCS3408 integrates direct detection of 50Hz or 60Hz ambient light flicker. Flicker detection is executed in parallel with ambient light and_color sensing has independent gain configuration and_also suppresses cross-coupling from any 940nm IR, if generated by adjacent circuits, such as a Time-of-Flight sensor. The flicker detection engine can also buffer data for calculating other flicker frequencies externally.
